The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, has disclosed that policemen in the state will soon begin a house-to-house search for illegal arms.

The search resolve followed the directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, asking the Commissioners of Police in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory to immediately recover all illicit arms, as well as arrest and prosecute the owners of such weapons.

Ajogun, while parading some suspects yesterday at the State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, called on criminals in the state to submit their arms and ammunitions.

Ajogun paraded 38 suspected criminals allegedly involved in robbery, murder, cultism, rape and kidnapping.

Among the suspects were a rapist, eight armed robbers, one kidnapper and two land grabbers allegedly terrorising the Ogijo area of Ogun State, all of whom the police committed said were arrested in different areas of the state between July and August this year.

The police chief said assorted charms, locally made double-barrel pistols and live cartridges, among other items, were recovered from the suspects.

One of the suspects, an Abeokuta-based clergyman, Prophet Ebenezer Ajigbotoluwa, who is the founder and General Overseer of Church of the Lord, Oloomore, Abeokuta, was alleged to have raped and impregnated two under-aged sisters, and to have swindled the girls’ family to the tune of N1.5 million.

Ajigbotoluwa told journalists he impregnated only one of the sisters and was legally married to her with the consent of her mother.
