State Police Commissioner, Mamman Sule, who spoke to journalists, also called on journalists to monitor the activities of the police in order to make them responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

“The journalists are responsible for our actions and inactions. We want you to assist the police in proactive rather than reactive policing,” the commissioner said.

He said the seminar which is billed for April this year, is necessary in view of the 2011 general elections and is aimed at informing the public on security measures being employed by the Yobe State Police Command to ensure peace prevails before, during and after elections.

“We also want to emphasize community policing as a way of ensuring peace in communities,” the commissioner, who was recently posted to Yobe from Kwara State said.

He said he will soon embark on tour of all the 17 local government areas of the state in order to meet with chairmen of LGs and traditional rulers to seek their cooperation.
