The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has disclosed that the dismissed students of Igbinedion Education Centre linked to an alleged viral bullying incident will be prosecuted.

Agbonika, who disclosed this in Benin while giving an update on the investigation, stated that the students would face prosecution at the Family Court.

He said the arrests followed a thorough and painstaking investigation, adding that all individuals directly connected to the incident have been identified and apprehended.

He noted that the suspects are being charged in accordance with extant laws guiding juvenile justice and child protection.

According to the Commissioner, the incident began on March 5, 2026, when two 14-year-old female students had a disagreement with a fellow student. During the altercation, the student reportedly uttered offensive words directed at the girls’ late father, specifically saying, “Ogun kill your papa.”

The girls subsequently attacked the student after school hours. In the course of the assault, a parent who had come to pick up her son intervened. However, the two girls allegedly turned on the woman, physically confronting her and dragging her clothes.

The school management subsequently intervened and expelled the girls for engaging in violent conduct.

However, the following day, a male student—whose mother had been assaulted the previous day—attacked the victim seen in the viral video. It was revealed that the victim of that specific attack was the brother of the two girls involved in the initial incident.

While urging parents, guardians, and school authorities to take greater responsibility for the moral upbringing and supervision of their children, the commissioner advised students to shun violence and focus on their studies.
