The police high command today converged an emergency meeting with Zonal Commanders and Commissioners of Police to address the menace of farmers/ herders clash in some parts of the country.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar also tasked the Commanders and senior police officers to start putting in place strategies to ensure security ahead of the 2015 elections.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the Police Force Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) Frank Mba, the emergency meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja was called to address “incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country.”

He added that the meeting also tabled; kidnappings, abductions, trans-border banditry, proliferation of arms and ammunition as well as other forms of crimes and criminality taking place in the country

Mba stated that the IGP urged the zonal AIGs and the Command CPs to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customized to suit their respective local challenges.

The IGP also charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.

The IGP further reiterated that the country is passing through one of its most trying moments and demands of its officers, utmost loyalty and commitment to duty, Mba said.
