Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have tracked down and recovered a Toyota Camry with registration number Yab 479 BG that was snatched at a gun point at NIPCO junction, Abuja.
FCT Police Commissioner, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, told journalists that the incident occurred on January 20, 2025, at approximately 10pm, after the victim was left traumatized but unharmed.
According to him, a report filed at Trade More Police Station, indicated that a young woman and her fiancé were driving home from Lighthouse estate and they were intercepted by armed robbers in a blue Toyota Corolla.
He said the robbers, who were brandishing firearms, fired warning shots into the air before ordering the occupants to exit the vehicle.
He said, “Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Trade More division activated an emergency response. All police units, including patrol vehicles, checkpoints, entry and exit points within and around the FCT, were placed on high alert,”
He said with the help of digital tracking technology; the stolen vehicle was traced to Zuba within hours of the robbery.
He said the officers, while acting on intelligence, swiftly moved to the location and recovered the vehicle intact, saying efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The CP commended the efforts of the Trademore division and other officers involved in the operation.
