The African Media Development Foundation (AMDF) has trained Police Officers from the Gender-Based Desk of the Nigeria Police Force in Kaduna to build their capacity on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) 2018 and its implementation in the state. 

The training was funded by ‘Rise Up,’ a programme of the Public Health Institute through funding from the Commins Foundation.

 AMDF Chief Executive, Iliya Kure said it has become pertinent for police officers to implement the law by using it to prosecute offenders. 

He assured the participants of the foundation’s readiness to work with them towards fighting all forms of GBV in the state. 

Also speaking, the officer in charge of the Rise Up project in the AMDF, Benjamin Maigari said the project was presently operational in Kaduna North and Kajuru LGA adding that this is because we found that there are higher rates of GBV in the rural communities. 

The interim head, Gender and Family Unit at the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mariam Zakari commended the efforts of AMDF for the training saying the police was ready to partner with AMDF to fight gender-based violence in the state.
