Police try officers for slapping traders in Kwara

Policemen attached to the anti-robbery team of the Kwara State Command, led by Aigbobahi Ogbemudia, are undergoing orderly room trial for assaulting two traders at the Challenge area of Ilorin.

The officers are seen in a viral video assaulting the traders who are brothers, Adeleke Ridwan (22) and Habeeb Ridawan, both clothes sellers.

In the video, the victims were accosted by a police team for routine check, but were manhandled and slapped by Ogbemudia.

Speaking on the incident in a statement, the police spokesperson in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “He (Ogbemudia) has no right to hit or assault any citizen regardless of his status, even as a suspect under investigation.

“For the single reason of lack of discretion on the part of members of the police team, the CP, Tuesday Assayomo, has directed the erring policemen who have been arrested and identified by the victims be detained and orderly room trial to commence immediately.”
