The police in Benue State have warned hoodlums to desist from destroying political parties’ campaign billboards or risk the wrath of the law.
Our correspondent reports that some political parties’ campaign billboards were shredded at the weekend in Gboko area of the state.
The Police Commissioner, Wale Abbass, stated yesterday in Makurdi, that the attention of the command had been drawn to the mischievous act of destroying political campaign posters and billboards by hoodlums.
Abbas, in a statement signed by the command’s spokeswoman, SP Catherine Anene, directed all area commanders and divisional police officers (DPOs) to ensure that such an act does not happen within their areas of responsibility.
The commissioner of police also called on political party executives to recall that on December 9, they had a peace pact that was duly signed and stated therein that peace would be maintained throughout the electoral period.
He, therefore, urged party executives to warn their followers to desist from such acts.
Abbas added that the party executives would also be held responsible if they failed to prevent their supporters from “perpetuating the barbaric act.”
