A police man, Monday Ehijie and two others have been killed allegedly in a cult related fight in Edo State.

It was gathered that the police man, who is a sergeant and an orderly to Ipoba-Okha local government chairman, was killed alongside two of his cult group members at the weekend during a fight against a rival cult group.

The officer was reportedly killed led at Namayo junction, Upper Sakpoba, Ipoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was learnt that the deceased police man’s parents have been warning him to stop getting involved in cultism even after joining the police but to no avail.

A source, who asked not to be identified, said the fight was between two rival cult groups and the policeman was fighting alongside his group and after the fight, the rival group traced him to Namayo junction and shot him and two others dead.

Another source said the officer was going home after the close of work when he ran into cult fight in the area and was killed in the process.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosun, who confirmed the incident said it was a cult killing and that the deceased police man was a cultist.

He said, “It was alleged that the officer belonged to a cult group. He was fighting on the side of his cult group against a rival cult group. That was what led to his death. Three people lost their lives in the fight – the police officer and two others.”

“I have gone to see his family. It is a cult killing and the officer was a cultist,” he said.

He said efforts were on to arrest the killers, warning that cultists would have no hiding place in the state.
