Policeman arrested for collecting N60,000 marked money

Detectives from Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon close, Ikoyi, have arrested a police Inspector, Okoi Etim, for allegedly collecting the sum of N60,000 from an hotelier in Badagry area of Lagos.

The suspect was said to have gone to demand for the money from the hotelier, claiming that he was sent by the area commander.

It was gathered that while the policeman was still at the hotel expecting to collect the money, the hotelier put a call through to the area commander requesting to know if she actually sent the Inspector to collect the money.

She also sent one of her aides to hand over to the hotelier N60,000 cash which were all marked. An impeccable source told Daily Trust that the money was later handed over to the Inspector. He was consequently arrested by some detectives from area K at the instance of the Area commander.

He was taken to the station where he was detained until the arrival of police from FCID.

Investigation by the detectives from FCID revealed that the suspect was always in the habit of extorting money from the hoteliers in the area.

Another police source at FCID said that the department has received several petitions from hotel owners alleging massive extortion against the Inspector.
