A police officer has been electrocuted while cutting leaves from a tree close to a high tension cable in Abuja.
According to the Director General (DG) of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Alhaji Idriss Abbas, the incident happened opposite the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Garki, Abuja.
The FEMA boss identified the deceased as Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Lasaka Habila, and said he was brought down from the tree by the search and rescue team of the agency and was taken to the National Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Alhaji Abbas said most trees would bloom and come in contact with electricity cables which might transmit high currents through the leaves and branches during the wet season and so urged residents to always seek approval from the FCT Department of Parks and Recreation before cutting down any tree.
