A policeman has been killed and one resident wounded when armed bandits attacked Chukuba in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state.
A community source, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons told Daily Trust in a telephone interview that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday, left many villagers in tension.
Chairman of the Local Government, Suleiman Dauda Chukuba, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Minna via a teleconference.
He appealed to both the state and federal government to come to their aid.
Also, armed bandits on Wednesday attacked Rigo village in Rafi Local Government Area of the state and abducted five persons.
When contacted, the police spokesman in the state, ASP Wasiu Abiodun promised to get back to our correspondent. He did not do so at the time of filing this report.
The state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, had, during a visit to Bobi Grazing Reserve on Monday at Mariga, assured the people of his administration readiness to flush out bandits operating in the state.
