Yobe state deputy governor Abubakar Aliyu says parents who refused polio vaccines for their children who eventually got deformed have questions to answer with God.

The deputy governor, who is also the chairman, Yobe state taskforce on polio immunization, disclosed at the traditional ruler’s sensitization campaign, Thursday in Damaturu.

Aliyu said that many polio affected children are currently facing slow death or a lifetime marred by deformity due to the recklessness of their parents.

"It’s high time for people to changed their perception about Polio, it is preventable disease, not caused by evil spirit," he said

The deputy governor also revealed that Yobe state has not recorded a single polio case for almost three years, challenging the traditional rulers to sensitize their subjects on the implication of rejecting the vaccine or impose its administration on children.

He noted that the state was caught in the middle of neighbouring Borno and Bauchi states that have cases of polio outbreak last year, and advised the traditional rulers to take the campaign to markets and other public places.
