This act of madness was as a result of the activities of few misguided politicians who see power as end rather than a means to an end. More than 20 people have been arrested so far including the former Chairman of Okene Local government, Yahaya Karaku. The process that brought the former chairman to office as caretaker and later chairman of Okene local government has been well documented. It was trailed by violence between Ogu and Omoye clan.

After the arrest of the ex-chairman, there were allegations that the member representing Okene federal constituency at the National Assembly was mentioned as one of those benefiting from the political violence in Kogi central. The veracity of such allegation has not been proven especially as he has not been indicted by security agencies; but we are worried especially with the calibre of people being arrested that our so called leaders are being fingered as those behind the endless cycle of bloodletting in Kogi central.

As the future light of society, we the youths in Kogi central cannot fold our arms while the foundation of our future aspiration is being destroyed by few people. If the allegations were eventually proved to be true, we shall mobilize ourselves to initiate the commencement of process of recalling all those involved. We cannot allow people with questionable characters to represent us at the highest body of decision making process in the country. As the saying goes, “evils can only triumph when good people do nothing”.
