Political prostitutes on the prowl!

David: Who do we know better?
Muhammed: Players in our nation’s political scene.
David: I wouldn’t want to discuss them. Aren’t they politicians? I bet discussing them would amount to a futile exercise. We’d better spend our useful time discussing something else.
Muhammed: Never mind their general idiosyncrasy—-the notoriety for everything anti-masses—-we mustn’t just keep quiet for these funny humans called politicians are becoming something else!
David: Oh! By the way, haven’t we flayed them times without number? What has come out of it? Nothing!
Muhammed: I agree. Yes, we’re yet to see the present generation of politicians change their attitudes such as selfishness, personal aggrandisement, mischievousness, deceit, corruption, do-or-die-affair mentality, and so on and so forth; but it doesn’t mean we must stop talking to their senses.
David: When you know them for all these evils, then what miracle are you expecting by talking to their senses?
Muhammed: I’m deeply concerned about their latest obnoxious act of politicking.
David: Waat! I’m sure it wouldn’t be worse than the contemptible manner they usually impose themselves on us.
Muhammed: You’re too forward! I know many of them don’t even understand the country they govern. At least, they’ve admitted they need numerous years to study the nation. Ordinarily, no sane electorate would vote such kind of human beings—leaders with no sense of focus and direction. But well…
David: Make your point, please.
Muhammed: I’m just bewildered. Anyway, the current song they are singing is defection, cross-carpeting; a euphemism for political prostitution!
David: So, this is what you’re driving at? Maybe you’ve to count me out of this talk.
Muhammed: Why? Don’t you feel concerned that your fatherland is full of shameless politicians who take pride in changing parties the way they change clothes? Don’t pretend you haven’t seen governors, including those who’re yet to succeed in getting Mr President’s daughters’ hands in marriage; deputy governors; party chieftains; and even local government chairmen, madly rushing to change parties?
David: Of course, I feel concerned, perhaps more than you do. Wasn’t it before our very naked eyes that a two-term governor dumped the party that made him? Examples abound in the National Assembly. Haven’t we also seen how a governor brashly defected to the party he spared nothing in criticising before he was elected? I know this is too promiscuous, but you know why I wouldn’t want to be involved in discussing it?
Muhammed: I wouldn’t know.
David: Some people out there would say it is politics. What’s wrong in that? They’ll query you for sure. Morality no longer has a place in the political amphitheatre.
Muhammed: Such is our politicians’ show of shame!
David: You don’t expect anything less in a society where those parading themselves as leaders have institutionalised political jobbery. They want to rule by hook or by crook. Many of them are just a bunch of crooks who believe they must either always be in power or work closely with those in power. Such is our predicament. Only God knows what we’ve done to deserve this—having people with no sense of purpose as leaders.
Muhammed: I pray we aren’t doomed.
David: I just can’t understand.
Muhammed: Most tragically, these agenda-less turncoats are not ashamed of their failure to impact positively on the lives of the millions of citizens history has put in their care.
David: Today, you see them in this party, and tomorrow, they’re in that party. They only want to be in charge of the nation’s political life perpetually as if it is their fathers’ property. The only thing that matters to them is the power to steal our commonwealth. Greedy men!
Muhammed: They’re more than greedy. They want to be at the centre of the looting cavalcade, and they can only achieve this, in their close-minded thinking, by joining the ruling party. At least, that would get them contracts. If they can’t beat them, they join them. Useless people!
David: No wonder the opposition is so weak in the country.
Muhammed: Why won’t it be, when the political landscape is devoid of principled and disciplined politicians who would stick to the creed without flinching?
