Speaking to newsmen in Gusau, Danlami suggested that the 2011 general elections should be conducted between October and November next year while all petitions and litigations should be completed between December 2010 and March 2011 and finally that those who win elections should be sworn in by May 2009.

Alhaji Danlami was of the view that if this idea is adopted by the National Assembly, the problem of election cancellations and organising of fresh elections would be over, thereby giving political office-holders the opportunity to carry out their assignments without hindrance. He said a situation whereby the election of an elected governor is annulled after spending some years in office is one of the factors responsible for the country’s snail pace of development and, therefore, urged the legislators to amend the electoral law in earnest.

Reacting to those calling for Yar’adua’s resignation due to ill- health, Danlami said it would not augur well for the country, as according to him, nobody is above being ill and the President could recover at any time and continue with his job.

On the recent elections of Ibrahim Mallaha and Musa Zubairu as PDP chairman and secretary respectively in Zamfara State, he said the elections were conducted peacefully and accepted by the majority of the party members.
