Obi, whose office and that of the National Security Adviser (NSA) facilitated the signing of the Abuja Peace Accord, in Abuja, called on the stakeholders to see the accord as a step in the right direction.
He said the onus was on political leaders, parents and guardians to lead by example and watch their utterances, appealing to them to tell their supporters to refuse to be used as political thugs.
He said the event was the beginning of a wider nationwide process involving all stakeholders, adding that the programme was developed for the implementation of a number of strategic objectives to be driven by campaign organisations of the major political parties from the national down to ward levels.
He noted that major areas of focus of the peace accord were public sensitisation, youth education, peace building projects and community awareness campaigns involving traditional rulers, community and religious leaders.
He said the onus now lied on leaders and other stakeholders to drive the agenda, noting that the peace accord was driven by the resolutions reached at the All Parties and Stakeholders’ Conference, which his office and that of the NSA organised in 2014.
