In a statement he signed at the end of their National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the group also criticised the security chiefs for failing to protect the lives of Nigerians.
He said the security chiefs were aware of the date of the elections for over a year but failed to contain Boko Haram in six years, saying insecurity which has been advanced “as basis for postponement of elections sets the stage for military adventurism should the insurgency remain in six weeks’ time.
“Did Mr President give orders to his security chiefs to prepare for the elections? Were the orders of Mr President ignored? If so the security chiefs have betrayed their duty to be subordinate to civil authority, defied and set the stage for potential truncation of democracy for security reasons,” he said.
MDCAN in the statement advised that Mr President should reorganise the defence structure of the military and rid his government of the Boko Haram sympathisers, who he had publicly admitted exist.
