From my personal assessment, the evils that afflict our political process are caused by the so-called godfathers and the electorates. I have seen no evidence that those who aspire to elective office are part of these evils.
The polity that is supposed to be the means by which citizens choose and elect who should govern them has become a profit enterprise for political godfathers to nominate and back illiterates as candidates who they can control after winning the election in order to reap from them.
It is unfair that our leaders always take decisions that benefit only few persons, instead of the general public; this clearly demonstrates that such godfathers influence such decisions.
These evils have eating deep into our political system and it has provided a vehicle for people to come into politics to embezzle funds meant for the public and then share with their political godfathers. Most of these godfathers, if not all, are the people with questionable characters. I wonder why the electorates believe so much in them that they often accept to vote the candidates presented to them by the so-called godfathers.
Because of the poverty in the land, the electorates are always ready to accept handouts from those evil-minded men in our society in order to vote for them.
The ungodly act of bribing people before getting their votes should be addressed and, henceforth, electorates should not accept any gift that would make them cast the vote against their personal convictions.
