The Kogi Police Command, yesterday, paraded 18 suspects among them two polytechnic students for alleged involvement in crimes including culpable homicide, kidnapping, robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Spokesman of the command, William Aya who paraded the suspects in Lokoja, said they included two students of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Jacob Ufedo and Abubakar Sadiq who were arrested for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
He said the 16 others were arrested from their hideouts across the state for their involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) led by DSP Babagana Bukar.
Aya said five of the suspects, who were armed with two locally made guns, attacked a police station and a vigilante office in Adankolo, a suburb of Lokoja, injured officers on duty and carted away police property.
He added that the suspects claimed that they were protesting the death of two of their members who drown in River Niger while trying to evade arrest from the officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who stormed their bunk in search of illicit drug.
Aya added that five others who engaged in kidnapping and armed robbery around Osara area of the state were arrested while combing the bush within the area.
He said one of their victims, Muhammed Bello, was rescued unhurt.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects included two AK47 rifles, 60 rounds of AK47 ammunitions, one single barrel gun, one rifle, one locally made pistol, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, 10 laptops and six handsets.
