Please allow me to use your esteemed newspaper to bring to the notice of the concerned authorities the poor condition of roads in our state – Kaduna State.

Road transport accounted for about 90% of the internal movement of goods and people in Nigeria. It was the main mode of transportation and the only means of access to most rural communities.

The main objective of having good road is to reduce passenger travel time, road related accidents that result in fatalities and vehicle operating cost.

In view of the bad condition of Kaduna-Pambeguwa-Saminaka-Jos road, about 75% of which is in utter disrepair, passengers spend seven hours for a journey that could ordinarily be made in half that time.

The roads are in this terrible conditions due to shared neglect for over 25 years. The manholes and potholes on the roads are a major cause of concern; not only do they slow down traffic, they cause accidents and are prone to kidnapping/robberies. Moreover they also damage vehicles, increase cost of maintenance and reduce life span.

I therefore appeal to the authorities concerned to take immediate, concrete action to repair the long neglected Kaduna-Pambeguwa-Saminaka-Jos road.
