Liam Rosenior has been sacked as head coach of English Premier League side, Chelsea.

The Englishman was sacked after losing 3-0 to Brighton on Tuesday night, the club’s fifth consecutive league defeat without scoring for the first time since 1912.

Rosenior left Strasbourg for Chelsea less than four months ago to sign a six-year deal.

He managed 11 wins but had 10 losses in the period in charge, coinciding with exit from the UEFA Champions League and a slide down the league table.

According to the Stamford Bridge club currently seventh on the EPL log, the decision to sack Rosenior was based on the club’s poor performance, and the need to fight for an European place next season with four more matches to the end of the season.

The club statement also thanked Rosenior for his good conduct and wished him well into the future.

“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior.”

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season. This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.

“Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.”
Chelsea added that the club “will undertake a process of self-reflection” for the right long-term appointment, hence, first-team assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take over the team for the rest of the season.

He previously played the role for one match in January following the sack of Enzo Maresca in January.

He has been tasked with ensuring the Blues win the FA Cup and qualify for Europe.

Chelsea will face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday at Wembley stadium.
