Sultan asks leaders to fear God, decries Niger’s bad roads
A Canada-based businessman, Oluwafemi Ayeyemi, has identified poor road infrastructure and growing insecurity as major obstacles discouraging Nigerians in the diaspora from investing in the country.
Ayeyemi made this known while commissioning Feliza Hotel and Suites, a world-class hospitality facility located in Odeda, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He disclosed that over ₦3 billion was invested in the project.
Speaking to journalists, the hotelier said many Nigerians abroad were willing to invest back home but are often deterred by bad roads and security concerns, which increase business risks and operational costs.
“Diaspora investors are worried about insecurity and poor access roads. These issues discourage serious investments,” he said, urging both the federal and state governments to prioritise infrastructure development and security.
Ayeyemi explained that he was motivated to invest in Ogun State after over a decade in business and positive reports about the profitability of the hospitality sector in Abeokuta.
He added that his investment was aimed at contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and creating employment opportunities for young people.
Also speaking at the event, the promoter of the Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, appealed to the state government to improve local government roads, particularly those leading to indigenous investments in rural communities.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Dr. Ololade Kehinde, also praised the investment, noting that hospitality projects play a key role in economic growth, tourism, and job creation.
