The Katsina State Government has summoned a popular Islamic cleric, Malam Yahaya Masussuka, to appear before a committee of Ulamas over allegations that his teachings contravene established Islamic principles.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda directed the cleric to defend himself against complaints filed by members of the public who claimed his preachings violate Islamic law.

The government also acknowledged a counter-complaint from Malam Masussuka, who alleged that some members of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a had insulted him and threatened to attack him.

To address the tensions, the state forwarded the concerns to the Katsina Emirate Council under the leadership of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman.

The statement said the emir subsequently convened a meeting with Malam Masussuka and other scholars, during which he cautioned all parties against delivering sermons that could offend or provoke other Muslims.

Despite this intervention, the government said reports indicate that the situation persists.

As a result, Governor Radda instructed that Malam Masussuka appear before a panel of Ulamas to respond to the allegations.

The committee is expected to set standards and guidelines for preaching in the state, and anyone found contravening them will face decisive government action.

The Katsina State Government urged residents to remain calm and patient as the matter is being handled with due diligence.
