Poster war and the coming elections
Recently, it was reported that a political party in the country procured some vehicles with the posters of an aspirant in the coming presidential election, but was unable to hire the drivers for them to take their destination because of fears of being attacked by supporters of the opposing party. The political parties have the right to display their posters in any part of this country and sale their candidature to the electorate without fear of intimidation and harassment. The various political parties should call their supporters to order to eschew any form of violence before, during and after the elections. Nigerian electorates have come of age to allow the issue of posters to becloud their sense of judgment. They should be part of the movement to ensuring that democracy endures in our clime. We should not allow the poster war to derail our quest of meeting the great expectation of people who are yearning for positive change in their entire lives. It’s in this direction that we call on the relevant stakeholders and security agencies to be proactive in dealing with any form of disturbance that would adversely affect the smooth conduct of the elections coming up in weeks’ time.
