The Conference of National Ex-Officio members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that postponing the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for October 24, will exacerbate the party’s ongoing crisis.

In a statement signed by Dr. Yunana Ilya (North Central), Dr. Nicholas Mshelia (North East), Chief Madumere Chinemerem (South East), Chief Patrick Agbe (South-South), Chief Faboyede Clement (South West), and Alhaji Ibrahim Alhaji (North West), they expressed support for peace efforts led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

The group highlighted the recent “dangerous turn of events” within the PDP, which they fear could destabilise the party.

“We have critically brainstormed and resolved to call on the leadership of the party to ensure that the NEC meeting on October 24 holds. This will give aggrieved members an opportunity to voice their concerns and have their issues addressed,” they stated.

They emphasised the need for the party to adhere to its constitution, which mandates holding a NEC meeting at least once every quarter. Failure to do so, they warned, could deepen the party’s internal discord.

“It is regrettable that our party has not followed its constitutional provisions, which would have resolved many of the unresolved issues,” the ex-officio members added.

While acknowledging ongoing internal disagreements, the members praised the efforts of the PDP Governors’ Forum under Senator Bala Mohammed’s leadership for working towards party unity.
