National President of POFAN, Chief Daniel Okafor, said “We have come to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on empowerment through buyback programme and to set up a processing plant for orange fleshed sweet potato that is very rich in Vitamin A in the FCT for health and wealth and the AG-Zyme Fertilizer Empowerment Scheme.
Managing Director of Zenith Energy Enzymes Ltd, Engr. Mrs E.E. Anikwe, stressed that the MoU, “is to empower orange fleshed sweet potato farmers in Nigeria with AG Zyme organic fertilizer, ensuring that they can have bumper harvest and market for their produce. The plant is also expected to be producing baby food and juice for the Nigerian market.
Commenting, Engineer Chukwudi Muogbo of the National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, said the orange fleshed sweet potato is developed by the institute through series of researches, adding, “the crop is rich in protein and Vitamin A, which is good for children and nursing mothers. It can be eaten raw with groundnut.”
