Poultry stakeholders meet to diversify production

The two-day event, according to the National Vice Chairman, South West, of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, PAN, Dr. Olufemi Faniyi, is essentially a business meeting where companies “who are who” in poultry production all over the world come to exhibit their products and services.
The yearly event attracts large numbers of poultry farmers and input suppliers who take advantage of the show, to form new alliances, partnerships and build network of business interests. “There are companies here who are looking for local distributors and to enter a new region. I know a company which is trying to get to the North East and they have been able to do that here. It is essentially a business-networking programme,” Dr. Faniyi said.
He stressed that the aim of the exhibition is to direct attention and investments of the world leading companies in poultry products to Nigeria as the largest agricultural industry with the largest market in Africa.
Dr. Onallo Akpa, the Director General of the association in an interview at the show said: “There are a lot of foreign companies exhibiting here. There are products and technologies that have hitherto not been known to the people. This exhibition is opening the eyes of people on how to produce with the highest form of efficiency putting into application new technologies.”
The director general continued: “It is through this kind of gathering or exhibition that we are able to bring different companies from different perspectives within the poultry sub-sector all over the world together.”
He said people with different backgrounds in terms of knowledge, expertise, and management were exhibiting, talking and exchanging ideas. “That is how people expand their production, diversify and make things work for the mutual benefit of companies exhibiting and the companies investing,” Akpa stressed.
A total of 43 local and foreign companies attended the exhibition with new technologies and innovations. These new technologies cut across animal nutrition supplements, equipment and management know-how, which will reshape the future of poultry farming in the country.
Some of the new technologies were the fully automated battery cages for day-old chicks, and newest technologies in animal treatment. These and many more were brought by the largest company at the show, Animal Care Services Konsult.
HI-nutrients international said they’ve introduced a new innovation that enables them to customize their products to meet specific needs of farmers. According to Aderonke Adeboye, Sales Representative, “We design, customize nutrients for our customers depending on what they need from their farms.”
Agri Supplies Nigeria Ltd and their German partner, Salmet, told this reporter that they have the leading technologies in poultry farming in the whole of West Africa. They are capturing the waste sector of poultry industries that will enable farmers produce methane gas from poultry droppings.
Other companies were China Muyang Feedmills; Israeli Agro Bar-magen Ltd, maker of vitamins premixes for additives and agro technologies; Indian ZFL Services, makers of chicken processing machines; Admore Nigeria Ltd, makers of anti mycotoxicosis and other biofeeds products; and Diversay Solutions Ltd which has introduced a biological fly control product known as “Bicofim.”
