The wife of the Inspector-General of police, Hajiya Asma’u Idris, yesterday handed over many grinding machines to wives of policemen serving in Lagos as part of efforts to empower women.

 At the occasion which was held at the POWA Hall, Ikeja, Hajiya Idris urged police personnel to empower their wives with a view to having family security.

 Idris, who is the president of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), made the call during her two-day official visit to Lagos State where she inaugurated some projects, including boreholes, in barracks.

 “When you empower women, you empower a generation. When women are empowered, they would be able to take care of families in case of eventuality,” she said.

 She commended the wife of the Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mrs Mary Imohimi, for the  empowerment programmes she had initiated within the short time she assumed the POWA Chairperson office in the state.

 The POWA president said that any programme that would touch many persons should be welcome among members.

 She advised the beneficiaries to make use of the empowerment gifts to better the lives of the families and others.

 The wife of the Lagos police boss, Mrs Imohimi, said her main concern has always been to give quality life to POWA members.

“It has been at the front burner of my administration to enhance the quality of life of our members and also members of Police Wives’ Association generally,” she said.

  At the event, 10 women from different area commands in Lagos State were given grinding machines, deep freezers and sewing machines.
