Director-General of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), Ahmed Bolaji Nagode, has urged youths to take the opportunity of the drive for renewable energy to acquire skills in solar and metering installation.
Nagode, during the presentation of a report on Self-Assessment Tool by the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), advised Nigerians to start looking at job creation in areas where youths could be self-empowered and employed as white-collar jobs are not enough for everyone.
He, therefore, said there is the need for youth to go into skill acquisition to train people in areas where they can be self-employed.
“One of the areas is that of solar PV installation and maintenance. We have renewables everywhere but the area we need to improve on is the issue of sustainability. The only way we can sustain it is to build human capital that will not only install but also maintain those infrastructure.

“We are training people to become meter installers. We have a huge gap in meters and we have taken the figures.”
He disclosed that the institute will soon train over 5000 young Nigerians in solar and metering installation.
Also speaking, the Director General of BPSR, Dasuki Arabi, said the result of self-assessment tools indicated that the institute has done well.
He however urged for improvement in. corporate strategy and communication so that Nigerians will be able to know what they are doing as they have done wonderfully well but little is known by the people.
