For over two months, Maiduguri and environs have no power supply, following the destruction of transmission equipment in Damboa by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Managing Director of the newly established Borno Energy Development Company (BEDC), Engineer Umar Zubairu, told newsmen yesterday that the Emergency Task Force On Restoration of Electricity in Borno, of which he is a member, has begun high-level talks with stakeholders in the power sector.
Other members include Engineer Ibrahim Ali, the governor’s Chief of Staff Abubakar Kyari and a staff of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Imamuddeen Talba.
He said the committee has met with officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria and the Transmission Company of Nigeria in Abuja, as well as with the acting Managing Director of Yola Electricity Distribution Company which supplies electricity to Borno.
