The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has said more manpower is required to effectively enforce technical standards in the power sector.

The Managing Director of NEMSA and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr Aliyu Tukur Tahir, stated this yesterday in Abuja during the presentation of a report on the deployment of Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) in NEMSA by the Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR).

Tahir said that the agency since it was established in 2014 had been facing challenges to work effectively in the sector.

He, however, said the introduction of SAT had enabled it to identify ways it could do more.

Tahir said, “The deployment of SAT in NEMSA was undertaken in September, 2021, and the exercise helped the agency to ascertain the constraints/challenges confronting it in its service delivery in the power sector. Based on the analysis of our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threat (SWOT), the agency has been able to identify additional opportunities for improvement and continuous improvement.”

Habiba Lawal, a representative of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said the tool enabled agencies to assess their strengths and weaknesses and employed outcomes as management tools to create continuous improvement.

The Director General of BPSR, Dasuki Arabi, said NEMSA performed well in the assessment and was awarded a gold plaque for the initiative introduced by the management.
