The immediate-past president of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Bede Opara, said the privatisation of power led to the casualisation of labour, job insecurity, unemployment and increased cost of living.
Opara stated this at the 3rd triennial delegates conference of the union held in Abuja.
He said: “To date, companies in the power sector have adopted all manners of anti-labour practices, including denial of salaries and sacking without fair hearing etc.”
He added that since employers were always reluctant to listen to the grievances of the employees by means of negotiations, trade unions had no choice than to embark on strikes and protests to actualise their demands.
