Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has admonished intending pilgrims to pray fervently to end insecurity and economic recession in Nigeria while in the Holy Land.

He gave the charge while inaugurating the first flight of intending pilgrims from the state to the Holy Land for this year’s Hajj exercise.

The flight lef around 1:12am on Tuesday with 538 prospective pilgrims from Gada and Sabon  Birni local government areas.

He also urged them to respect the laws of the Saudi kingdom.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Malam Faruk Umar, the Governor was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

"I want you to pray for the quick recovery of our President and for the end of the current insecurity and recession in the country in the Holy Land," he added

While congratulating them for this onerous opportunity, he advised them to learn more about Hajj from the Imams among them as this would enable them to understand the rudiments of the annual exercise.

He assured them that the state has made adequate arrangement to ensure their comfort here and in the Holy Land.

Earlier, the Director General of the agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar warned the pilgrims against taking contraband items to the Holy Land.

He said that decent accommodation and other logistic were put in place to ensure their comfort in Madina and Makkah, and commended Governor Tambuwal for providing them enabling environment to perform their duties diligently.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the agency confirmed to Daily Trust that no intending pilgrims has been  disqualified so far and he could not give the exact number of the state pilgrims as registration was still on.
