During the sermon, Rev. Fr. Robert Achiaga said it is good to pray for those who have died because they cannot pray for themselves. Reading from the Gospel of Matthew, the priest said, “We believe in the resurrection. We believe that those who have died are alive. We believe God is merciful.”

The preacher maintained that all souls should be included in the prayers: souls of rapists, robbers, killers, autocratic leaders.

“We pray for enemies today. The soul of the Muslim, the pagan are all prayed for,” he emphasised, recalling that when Jesus was on the cross between two condemned robbers, he promised the one on his right paradise.

The young looking but highly philosophical cleric explained, “Nobody understands the extent of God’s mercy. The questions God asks are, how did he live? How did he die? “It’s possible to live well but die badly. What takes us into heaven is the mercy of God.

“On this day, we pray for all people, not only those we love.

“During Gadafi’s death, he deserved nothing more than our mercy. Living well should be crowned with dying well” and reminded the congregation that life begins after death.

A long moment of silence was observed for the remembrance of the dead. Throughout this month, prayers are to be offered for the souls of the departed.
