A pregnant woman and two wives of the same husband were among six persons that died at the Iganbo community of Ijaw Arogbo, Ese-Odo local government area of Ondo State two days ago when a church building suddenly collapsed.
The church building, belonging to a Cherubim and Seraphim sect and still under construction, suddenly gave way while some of the victims were working at the site.
Several other persons were seriously injured and are undergoing medical treatment in a nearby hospital.
Eko Trust learnt that some of the victims were trying to gather planks for the construction when the sad incident occurred. The main church building was understood to have been established in 1963 and the construction project that resulted in tragedy was to refurbish part of the building. According to a witness, the victims were in the church premises to gather planks when parts of the dilapidated old structure and the new one under construction fell on them, killing six people instantly.
A member of the church, Apostle Ola Goloba, lost his two wives he identified as Beni and Magi to the incident. Also, a pregnant woman identified as Dalen Gunubo was among the victims.
