A 34-year-old pregnant woman, Blessing Mohammed, has been sentenced to two months in prison by an Oredo magistrate court, for assaulting a food vendor.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Lucky, yesterday told the court  that the offence was committed on August 29,  at No 30 Iyoba St. Off Uwelu Road, Benin.

He said the convict assaulted one Jessica Edobor and in the process damaged some bags of satchet water valued at N5,000, rice and beans valued at N10,000 and tarpaulin shade valued at N10,000. All properties said to belong to another woman, Helen Edobor.

The prosecutor further told the court that Blessing was being arraigned on a two-count charge punishable under sections 355 and 451 of the Criminal Code.

The accused pleaded guilty to count one and begged the court for leniency.

Delivering ruling, Chief Magistrate Esohe Ighodan sentenced Blessing to two months imprisonment on the offence of assault and discharged her on the second offence.

He however gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
