The Presidency has reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s commitment to freedom of the press, transparency and accountability  as it continues to restore the fortunes of the economy.

 Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina spoke when he, alongside the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, received the outgoing chairman of the State House Press Corps, Kehinde Amodu and the newly-elected chairman of the corps, Ubale Musa.

 The presidential spokesman said it was noteworthy that the corps conducted its election in a transparent manner in tandem with the stance of the president administration.

 Expressing delight that the election was devoid of any form of interference, he reiterated Buhari’s belief that Nigeria can only be great if the citizens shun all forms of corruption, greed and selfishness.

He said Musa’s election was instructive as he had been expelled from by the immediate past administration and had his accreditation restored by the present administration to demonstrate Buhari’s belief in freedom of the press.

Adesina advised Musa to continue to lead his colleagues in an inclusive manner, having enjoyed an overwhelming support in his electoral victory.

Earlier, Amodu said the best candidate won the election and assured that given Musa’s maturity and level-headedness, there would be no friction between the corps and government officials at the Presidential Villa. 

In his remarks, Musa, a correspondent of Deutsche Welle, sought the presidential spokesmen’s cooperation to make his job easy and assured them of the support of his colleagues.
