The recent interview granted to Arise TV by President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to attract reactions across the country.

There is no doubt, the interview has come at a time when the country is experiencing myriad challenges of nationhood building and the president seemed to be  shying away from talking to Nigerians on what his government is doing to address the situation.

However, the interview has put to a halt the speculations that Buhari has been hijacked and not entirely in charge of his government.

In the last six years of his administration, President Muhammadu Buhari had proved to talk more to the foreign media than our local media. Many Nigerians got to know about his government plans or programmes  when he was abroad from the foreign media.

It is also on record, that the president usually reaches out to Nigerians, in periods of national emergency, through his spokesmen.

The Arise TV media chat and June 12 Democracy Day’s address are indicative that Buhari has finally re-invented himself.

In these trying times when the country is on flames from left, right and centre, Nigerians do not want to see a president who will stay at the Villa and only be heard through proxy.

It is cheering that President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence and proved to Nigerians that he is in charge.

In his remaining two years, Nigerians want him to talk to them more about his efforts to address lingering insecurity and revamping our ailing economy.
