Presidential election: APC carpets PDP in Atiku’s acclaimed ancestral home

Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari has defeated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his self acclaimed ancestral hometown, Wurno in Wurno local government area of Sokoto state.

It would be recalled that Atiku had during the flag off of his northwest campaign rally in Sokoto claimed that his parent were originally from Wurno.

Buhari scored 20,307 votes to defeat Abubakar who scored 9,847.

However, the former Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa delivered his local government area, Isa to Atiku.

Atiku won 17,892 votes as against 15,909 votes scored by Buhari.

However, the agent of the APC in the area, Abdulrahman Sani urged the State Collation Officer, Professor Yahuza Bello not to accept the result as there was no voting in three polling units due to security threat.

The polling units were Yan Fako, Gebe A and B and Kagara which he said were sacked by bandits

Professor Bello called the INEC Local Government Electoral Officer, Abubakar Aliyu to explained what transpired in Isa.

Aliyu admitted receipt of a letter from the APC two days to the election advising them not to send Supervisory Presiding Officers to those units over security threat but after getting clearance from security agencies, he sent them.

“But upon reaching there, the presiding officers  met members of that community who said they could not vote in their area for fear of bandit attacks as a result of which they community leader advised that they should relocate the polling units to Kamarawa which they did,” he said

“When I got wind of the development, I queried the presiding officers  because what he did was against the law and directed them back to those polling units. This is what I know.

Responding, Professor Bello said they could not temper with the result rather they would  write a report on the development.

Meanwhile, PDP won presidential election in Silame local government as it defeated APC with over 2000 votes.

PDP scored 13,949 votes while APC got 10,910.
