Few months ago, the prices of grains like maize, reached a record high of N320 per measure and N16,000 per 100kg bag. 
This raised a lot of concerns among poultry farmers who rely heavily on the product to produce their feeds and forced some farms to shut. 
This month, many farmers who cultivated the grain are already in the market, forcing the price to drop from 300 to N100 per measure in Nasarawa State. 
In the state, the price of maize is down by almost 60% with a measure of maize in Kogo area of Nasarawa State selling for N100, while in Akwanga, Lafia and Doma it is sold for N150. 
A 100kg bag which hitherto was sold for N15,000 now sells for N11,000 in Akwanga and N8,500 in Doma and its environs. 
“Hunger is almost gone,” a farmer, Mr Dauda  Bako, said. “The prices will further crash when more farmers hit the market.” 
A poultry farmer, Mrs Alheri Danladi, says she expects the price of chicken feeds to drop, too, stressing that most of the reasons advanced for the high cost of feeds relate to prices of maize and soya beans. 
But the price of soya beans in the market remains high as it is not yet its harvest time. A measure sells for N150 in Akwanga and some parts of Nasarawa State. 
Another poultry farmer, Gambo Abdul, however, says farmers need more knowledge on how to compose their feeds to be able to break even in view of the challenges they face in buying from manufacturers, which they say “is becoming too high and making it difficult to make profits…because everyone is blaming forex.”
