The price of tomatoes and hot pepper has gone down while that of the onion has risen in the popular Faring Gada Market of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Farin Gada Market is a place where perishable goods, such as cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, onions among others are sold with buyers coming from different parts of the country.

Our correspondent who visited the market yesterday reported that a basket of tomatoes sold between N7,000 to N8,000, last month it is now N4,000, adding that a bag of hot pepper sold at N8,000 has come down to N5,000.

But the story is different with onions whose price rose from N17,000 to N35,000, adding that onion was the only perishable goods so far that its price had risen up in the market.

Malam Shehu Hasan, a tomato seller in the market, told Daily Trust that the price of the products is often determined by their availability in the market and the number of buyers in the market.

He said: “The prices change from time to time depending on the Market days and its availability in the market. This price I am telling you is because we are hardly short of tomatoes in Jos. If you go to other states like Kano Kasina, Lagos or Enugu, the price is different. You hardly wake up without tomatoes in Jos.”
