Koh, who made this known in Abuja, said Nigeria can develop its economy by inculcating its values in the people and build their capacity.
He said: “Creating competency and neglecting character means creating a population of people of economic enemies that are cheats, liars because they have no character and value.”
Comparing Singapore with Nigeria, he said he came from a very poor country where they have no natural resources but they discovered they have human resources and they invested in their education to build human capacity.
“Education is very important in our country because we have no natural resources like oil, goal, bronze, water and others and that is what made us to focus on human resources,” he said.
He said Nigeria can become a great country by avoiding short cuts, adding: “Countries that are taking short cuts, their economies are in disarray and they produce a group of very bad people that are dishonoured. Therefore, Nigeria needs to start with men and women of integrity and the best place to start is from schools.”
