Pupils in primary school in Jos North and Jos South Local Areas of Plateau State have been told to embrace peace and love for one another irrespective of their religious and ethnic affiliation. 

The Commander Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ibrahim Ali, made the call during a visit to the commander at the command’s headquarters in Jos by a cross section of pupils from some primary schools in the area. 

The visit was to show solidarity with the troops for ensuring a safe and secured environment for academic activities in Jos and its environs. 

The Commander urged the children to take lessons from leaders with good virtues and unblemished track records, assuring them of safe environment for their uninterrupted academic activities.  

Speaking on behalf of the children, the Chairperson Children Council Jos South, Ene Sophia Igah, said the visit would give a lifetime memory and spur the children to become successful in their chosen careers.  

She thanked the Commander for his speedy response to issues of security on the Plateau. “We say a big thank you for your promptness in tackling insecurity because without peace, we cannot go to school and our parents cannot go to work thereby truncating our education.” 

The Programme Director, Read, Learn and Grow Literacy, Mr Enow Fidelis, said the organisation promotes reading culture and engages in leadership training of children from diverse background aged 7 to 12.
