Prince Victor Alobari of Betem Kingdom has condemned the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing it as a blatant betrayal of democracy and the will of the people.

In a statement on Wednesday, Prince Alobari expressed deep disappointment over the political crisis in Rivers State, particularly the removal of an elected governor.

He lamented the alarming trend of individuals and institutions abandoning truth and justice in pursuit of power.

“The suspension of a democratically elected governor is nothing short of a rape on democracy. It is disheartening to see how quickly people shift towards the direction of power rather than standing firm on the principles of truth and justice. Our people have a saying: ‘The eyes that will carry you through the day, you will know in the morning.’ Sadly, the eyes of some of our leaders are already blurring, and the day is still young.”

Prince Alobari said even if the entire traditional institution in Rivers State decides to support the appointed sole administrator, he will not align himself with such an injustice.

He emphasized that true leadership requires courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the people’s mandate.

“As a prince of Betem Kingdom and a voice for our people, I cannot and will not support any action that undermines democracy. Governor Fubara was elected by the people, and any attempt to remove him through unconstitutional means is an insult to the electorate and a dangerous precedent for our democracy.”

The Prince called on traditional rulers, elder statesmen, and political stakeholders in Rivers State to reflect on their actions and realign with the values of justice and democratic governance.

He urged them not to allow political tension to erode the foundational principles of fairness and respect for the people’s will.

“We must not sacrifice our democracy on the altar of political expediency. History will judge us all by the choices we make today. Let us stand on the right side of it.”

Prince Victor Alobari reaffirmed his solidarity with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the good people of Rivers State, urging the youth and the good people of Betem Kingdom and Rivers State to stay calm and resilient.
