The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained the principal of Government Junior Day Secondary School (GDJSS), Kara, in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, over alleged vandalism and illegal sale of school property.
The suspect, Adamu Haruna, was accused of selling items belonging to the Universal Basic Education (UBE) scheme.
The arrest followed the interception of a tricycle rider, Mohammed Abdullahi, 43, by community members while transporting vandalised items, including iron window frames and chairs.
The items were allegedly sold by the principal to a buyer identified as Imranah, in collaboration with an accomplice, Mada, who is currently at large.
The tricycle rider was handed over to the NSCDC office in Potiskum for further investigation.
Confirming the incident, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, SC Bala Garba, said preliminary findings linked the principal to the sale.
“During investigation, it was revealed that the principal sold the items to the buyers, who engaged the tricycle rider to transport them,” he said.
Garba added that the suspects and recovered items are in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
A resident, Ali Usman, described the incident as unfortunate and urged the state government to ensure justice is served.
