Principals of Secondary Schools under Nassarawa Educational Zone in Kano state have been urged to imbibe the spirit of self-sacrifice in their efforts to develop best talents among students in their respective schools.

The Nassarawa Zonal Education Director, Hajiya Umma S. Muktar made the call in her remarks at the just concluded quiz and essay writing competition organised by the Nassarawa zonal chapter of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), held at Government Secondary Commercial School, Kano.

Hajiya Umma emphasised the need for robust programmes that would geared towards nurturing available talents in schools, stressing that the major challenge lies on the principals especially those that were willing to make sacrifices in coordinating the implementation of the programmes in schools.

She said, “We have a lot of talents in schools, but we need structures, facilities and programmes that can help then get there.

“The major challenge of the programmes is to have principals that will make sacrifices.  If we don’t sacrifice we will not get anywhere because the children we are focusing on are from poor background.’’

She also advised the students to be diligent and hardworking in their pursuit for knowledge.

At the end of the competition, Rabiu Alkasim and Sadiq M. Sadiq both from government secondary school Tudun Bojuwa emerged overall winners, while Ummi Hambali Abubakar and Fatima Musa Umar of government Junior Secondary School Tudun Wada won the second positions respectively.

The event was aimed at developing students’ creativity and sense of reasoning in relations to their colleagues in other schools.
