The group, along with international development partners such as the Mac Arthur Foundation and British Council DFID, made the call recently in Abuja during a joint press conference, which was attended by the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello.
The group, while recalling with delight the passage by the 7th National Assembly of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, urged the new administration to place priority on the proper implementation of the act which has the potential to bring about significant improvement in the dispensation of justice in the country.
Prof. Yemi Akinseye George, SAN, who spoke on behalf of the group further urged governments in the country to note the direct relationship between confidence in the justice system of any country and its ability to attract investors and tourism which could help to improve the national economy.
“On the other hand, a weak and inefficient justice system discourages investments and tourism while giving the country a bad image both locally and internationally,”  Prof Yemi Akinseye said.
He said that adequate material and human resources should therefore be provided in support of implementation of reform in the justice system.
According to him, such investment in the system is money well-spent.
He said further that if properly implemented, the ACJA 2015 will address most of the problems currently facing the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria, especially, the delay in investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.
