Kaina who spoke while receiving the Director General of the agency, Mrs Lacticia Nwaka who paid him a courtesy call observed that the core values of Nigerian prison of correcting the attitude of prisoners might not be achieved without collaboration with other organisations.
He noted that prisons and Legal Aid Council were partners in progress while stressing that Nigeria prison service of today was basically for reformation of inmates and not for retribution or punishments. On inmate’s right, the controller said that ,“Gone are the days when prisons used to be secretive, prisons gates are now open, everybody has access to information on prisons”, adding that his command was vigorously working towards protecting the rights of the inmates.
He thanked the DG for the visit and assured that Legal Aid Council in Borno State would continue to get his support at all times. Responding, Mrs Nwaka said she was at the command to condole and express sympathy over the Boko-Haram mayhem. She lauded the cordial relationship existing between the two agencies, saying there was need to maintain the tempo.
