The Association of Proprietors of Private Polytechnics in Nigeria (APPPN) has called on the federal government to reopen polytechnics in the country, saying, the return of students to campus will help the institutions come up with innovations towards combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
President of the association, Dr. Moses S. Adeyemi made the call in Abuja while reacting to the statement by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) aligning with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), that schools in the country should not be reopened.

“You cannot close technological institutions that are supposed to be assisting in required technology for controlling the disease,” he said.
According to him, private polytechnic have limited number of students and can observe physical distancing and other COVID-19 protocols stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Daily Trust Saturday reports that ASUP and ASUU have stated that the populations of students in public tertiary institutions are too large to allow for social distancing in line with COVID-19 management protocols.
